                        Univ of Loughborough
                           Dr Anne Mumford

This collaborative project will bring together senior staff
     from Loughborough's University's Computer Centre,Staff
Development Unit and Audio Visual Services. It will build on
the experience already gained in the production of graphics
support materials and will provide needed input to projects
supported under the IT Training Initiative in addition to
being of potential value as a reource for the general
     university IT training community.

The intention is to create a short practical guide to the
production of text and course-based training materials in
various areas of computing. This will be produced in ring
-binder form and will include advice, checklists and sample
materials. One hundred copies will be provided for free
distribution. The materials will be produced in time for use
by those involved in material production under the
     Initiative.

     OBJECTIVES

The prime objective is to develop the knowledge and skills of
those staff involved in the production of computer related
training materials and will be done by:

. informing users of the skills and stages in the design,
       production and delivery of materials
. demonstrating different approaches and identifying their
       strengths and weaknesses.
. providing checklists, exercises and sample materials

     END PRODUCT

The ring-binder will contain advice on:
. the stages in the process of developing, producing and
delivering text and computer-based training materials.
. the pitfalls that may trap the unwary.
. the internal processes required to ensure quality.
. the basic principles of material design, production
       and delivery.
. comparative costs of different approaches.
