CAL Authoring Provision: Standards, Environments & Training Nottingham Univ Dr Peter Davies The objective of this project is to develop, within the framework of an already established institutional IT provision strategy, corporate CAL authoring standards, delivery specifications and training materials as a pilot for the subsequent provision of campus-wide support for computer-based training and interactive learning at undergraduate level. To this end the project will attempt to co-ordinate skills and experience already available in the University Computing Centre, the Personnel Department and the Zoology Department, and to exploit the University's substantial investment in authoring provision (principally site licences for Authorware Professional and Guide) and electronic communication. Three converging technologies will be used in support of the project: multi-platform authoring, local area networking and multimedia. A research assistant, based in the Zoology Department for three years, will assist with (1) the specification of authoring and interface standards, (2) the design, promotion and implementation of training strategies (for academic staff and students), (3) the development of training materials and courseware, and (4) the latter's evaluation in subsequent trials. A second research assistant, based in the Computing Centre for two years, will co-ordinate the transfer of emerging skills, standards and training products to the wider university community. The outcome will be an enlarged core of skilled CAL authors, a standardised applications development environment, proposals for a corporate user interface, and a series of policy recommendations for ongoing authoring and training provision. _______________________________________________________________________ | | | In general the copyright for material on the NISS Bulletin Board | | is held by the CHEST & NISS Centre (University of Bath) or by the | | authors. | | | | Copying or reproduction of the material is permitted provided that | | | | (a) the source is acknowledged | | and (b) the material is not used for commercial gain. | | | | However, material must not be made available outside the academic | | community without prior consent. | |_______________________________________________________________________|
