                            Debbie Thomas

The purpose of this project is to develop and produce to
professional standards a package of training support
material to enable Computer Centre staff to carry out
effective training in the areas of LaTeX and C for Fortran
     programmers.

The course material will be based on existing courses which
have been run several times and have been very successful.
The packs will consist of course notes, OHP masters,
lecturer notes, exercise sheets and model solutions.

                           Course Synopses

     C for Fortran Programmers

This will be a five day, intensive, hands-on programming
course for Fortran Programmers wishing to utilise the
programming language C. The course will cover the basic
features of C, using simple examples from Fortran to ease
the learning process. The course will aim to impart the
spirit of C and some basic software engineering principles
so that, subsequent to the course, the programmer codes in
     C and not in Fortran-C.

     An Introduction to LaTeX

This will be a one day basic level LaTeX course for users
of Sun Workstations. It will cover document styles, font
sizes and styles, section numbering, table of contents,
     tables, maths, indexes and references.

This is a 12 month project based in the Informatics
     Department, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.
