DISTRIBUTION OF REVISED INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TRAINING INITIATIVE (ITTI) MOTIF TRAINING COURSE

We at Edinburgh University Computing Service received some continuation ITTI funding via UCISA last year to update the Motif Training Course. A complete revision of the ITTI Motif training course is now available.

It consists of 40 modules of lectures and practical work. It covers a wider range of topics than the original course, and gives trainees many small exercises to do. It is designed for competent C programmers.

Materials include OHP transparencies, notes, extra notes for the lecturer, workbooks for the exercises, example C code, and supplementary handouts. Instructions for setting up the course are provided in HTML and plain text.

PostScript files (for A4 black-and-white printers) are included, so course organisers can print the materials themselves. We are therefore not offering copies on paper. The source material is in FrameMaker 4 format, and is also supplied.

The course is now available by anonymous ftp from xtraining.ed.ac.uk in the directory xtraining/motif where there is a README.first file, plus a lot of *.tar.Z files.

The old course is still available in the directory xtraining/motif/oldcourse. The course is offered for UK state-funded academic and research institutions. It may be used for academic purposes and for internal training, free of charge. It must not be used commercially. Trainees must be students or University staff. No fees may be charged for the course.

A printed set of materials may be produced if enough colleagues request this. The cost would be dependent on numbers printed. Please indicate your interest by emailing j.burgan@sheffield.ac.uk.
