Getting Started with Computer Based Learning Purpose: This publication aims to help newcomers to get started in the use of CBL and avoid the pitfalls which so often result in project failure. Description: Getting Started with Computer Based Learning (CBL) begins by looking briefly at the benefits and problems of using computers in education and presents examples of the different ways in which the computer has been used to enhance learning. It goes on to outline the skills necessary for the development of CBL material and provide a systematic approach to its production. It is not intended as a detailed guide to all aspects of computer based learning: many publications already provide such information for reference or for those who have sufficient time to study the topic in depth. Producers: KD Whittlestone, Dr TGB Howe and Dr JA Longstaffe Educational Technology Service (ETS), University of Bristol. The ETS supports the development of CBL material throughout the University and the work was funded by the Information Technology Training Initiative.
