The Use and Capture of Images for Computer-Based Learning by Dr Jane Williams, ETS, University of Bristol Images, both still and moving, form the core of many multimedia applications and it is a commonly held view that illustrations can be used to enhance computer-based learning material (courseware) and the learning process. This publication is divided into two sections. The first section takes a look at the evidence supporting the view that illustrations enhance the learning process and suggests appropriate ways of using images. The second section discusses the issues involved with the preparation (capture, manipulation, storage and delivery) of photo-realistic images for use in the creation of computer-based learning material.
