Hypermedia in the Humanities

by Marilyn Deegan, Nicola Timbrell and Lorraine Warren

Oxford University and Hull University ITTI Projects

This book aims to be as introductory and non-technical as
possible. It starts with the definition of some of the
basic concepts of hypermedia and gives a brief summary of
the history of the topic. It contains the results of a
survey on the present use of hypermedia in the humanities.
The process of authoring is covered: the tasks involved in
putting together hypermedia products, the acquisition and
formats of the various constituent media, and some of the
currently popular authoring packages. Some assessment, both
by teachers and students, of the use of hypermedia in the
classroom is included. A great deal of practical
information about on-going projects and finished products is
     given.
