Santiago Chumbe

Santi is an Assistant Professor at the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Heriot Watt University of Edinburgh. He is the Director of the Software Development for Business Programme and teaches five courses at the Department of Computer Science. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Santi has been the Principal Investigator (PI) of various Discovery & Interoperability, Data Mining and e-Publishing research initiatives as well as Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) projects. He is the creator and the PI of JournalTOCs.

Lisa J Scott (nee Rogers)

Lisa is the School's Distance Learning Manager and has worked on projects relating to sharing learning resources. Lisa heads the projects that are developing online material for the work-based courses of the Graduate Apprenticeship Programme.

Idris Al-Skloul Ibrahim

Idris has worked on the School's distance learning programmes and projects related to JournalTOCs. Idris is an Assistant Professor at the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Heriot Watt University of Edinburgh and teaches six courses at the Department of Computer Science (Graduate Apprendiceship Programme).

Callum Stewart

Callum is one of the interns working as a Software Developer for JournalTOCs since Oct 2019. He has contributed to the maintenance and enhancement of JournalTOCs software; helping to make JournalTOCs database more secure (e.g. mysql driver migration, SQL prepared statements implementation), upgrading and documenting JournalTOCs APIs, providing direct support to licensed customers of the service, etc. Callum is leading the migration of JournalTOCs from HTTP to HTTPS. He is also developing the second version of the JournalTOCs mobile application (both IOs and Android versions). Callum is in the 4th Year of his MEng Software Engineering degree. He is an expert in web security and web services.

Abigail Walters

Abigail is one of the interns working for JournalTOCs since Oct 2019. She is the Customer and Business Manager of JournalTOCs. Abigail provides front-desk support and assistance to end-users and licensed customers. Abigail is responsible for keeping the JournalTOCs Database up-to-date. She detects and resolves errors in the metadata of journals and publishers and, adds new journals to JournalTOCs. She is in charge of managing JournalTOCs subscriptions. Abigail successfully completed her MA App Languages & Translation degree in 2020 and now she is doing a Master in Translating for Business. She is fluent in English, French and German.

Bruce Wilson

Bruce is one of the interns working as a Software Developer for JournalTOCs since Oct 2019. He has contributed to the maintenance and enhancement of JournalTOCs software; including implementing secure Sign In/Sign Up (e.g. advanced password encryption), optimising and speeding-up JournalTOCs web applications, providing direct support to licensed customers of the service, etc. Bruce is leading the development of a research project that could enable JournalTOCs to systematically discover Open Access versions for the latest articles published in the journals indexed by JournalTOCs. Bruce is in the 4th Year of his MEng Software Engineering degree. He is an expert in web security and information discovery and retrieval.

Recently Departed

Hazel Brookes

Hazel worked as a JournalTOCs Intern for one semester. She was in charge of code refactoring of various parts of the back-end software of JournalTOCs as well as reverse engineering the JournalTOCs website. She re-evaluated the new JournalTOCs mobile apps with a selected group of end-users.

She completed her BSc Hons in Computer Science with First-Class Honours.

Zoe Ogilby

Zoe was the CRM (Customer Relationship Manager) Intern of JournalTOCs in 2018-2019. She played an important role in the organisation and management of licenses and subscriptions. She assisted end-users and resolved their enquiries. Zoe kept JournalTOCs Database up-to-date, updating journal metadata and adding over 1000 new journals. Zoe produced a new version of our Online Training for JournalTOCs Premium Customers in Spanish.

Moved to: after completing her MA of Arts in Languages - Interpreting and Translating with First-Class Honours, she joined a Spanish company to work in Spain.

Lachlan Woods

Lachlan was the Software Developer Intern of JournalTOCs in 2017-2018. He successfully developed the first version of the JournalTOCs mobile application, which is available to download on iOS from the Apple iTunes store as well as on Android version from the Google play store. He developed CRON jobs to capture new journal covers and expanded the capabilities of the Sign Up software. Lachlan completed his BSc in Computer Science with First-Class Honours and won the Best Dissertation award 2018-2019.

Hayley Gibson

Hayley was the CRM (Customer Relationship Manager) Intern of JournalTOCs in 2017-2018. She provided an excellent front-desk support by assisting end-users and resolving their enquiries. She kept the JournalTOCs Database up-to-date and played a key role in the addition of 3000 new journals to JournalTOCs. Hayley contributed with various blog posts and was the co-author of the UKSG eNews Editorial "The importance of cc:license for the discoverability of open access articles in hybrid journals" Issue 430 (2018).

Phil Barker

Phil worked with Cetis, LRMI, and a number of engineering- and physical science-related projects at ICBL.

Sam McNaughton

Sam was the Software Developer Intern of JournalTOCs in 2017 (Summer). Sam added the possibility of automatically tracking and renewing licenses from the JournalTOCs CMS. He also implemented a systematic way to discover URLs of journal covers and to use them to update the covers held in the JournalTOCs database.
