Teaching Activity

Santiago is the Director of the BSc Software Development for Business Programme. The Programme is funded by the Scottish Government, Skills Development Scotland Co LTD and business partners.

Knowledge Transfer Activity

Santiago is the Principal Investigator of the JournalTOCs project. He created JournalTOCs, a personalisable Current Awareness Service powered by the largest searchable collection of scholarly journal Tables of Contents (TOCs).

JournalTOCs has a two-fold mission: to help researchers keep up-to-date on new research that matters to them; and to provide Heriot Watt students with a real-world scenario to learn and experiment with e-commerce technologies and management.

He has worked in various Knowledge Transfer Projects as a Principal Investigator (PI) and consultant to companies from the publishing industry. His research interest is in Programmatic Resource Discovery, Interoperability and Delivery Metadata Standards, Open Access publishing business models, revenues and technologies.

Santiago is from Peru and graduated from the Universidad Nacional de IngenierĂ­a (Lima). He did postgraduate studies in Japan, Spain and the UK. Prior to joining Heriot-Watt University, he worked as a software engineer in Peru, Spain, Belgium and the UK. Santiago is an Industrial Engineer by training and he holds a PhD in Engineering Sciences.
